Mapping: Italy
On a recent trip to Italy with my father, our first trip alone together since I was fourteen, I used GPS and Strava to track our daily routes through Venice and the Dolomites. As we walked, I thought about family, memory, and the ways landscapes become connected to particular moments in our lives.
These works trace the paths we followed, including a near-missed turn on a mountain trail. I use the recorded lines as structures for layering color, observation, and fragments of experience. The resulting paintings bring our movements through Italy together with memories of the relationship my father and I have carried across time.
